[Bldg-sim] go-to forum for LEED

I wanted to hear other suggestions before I chimed in. Chris
and David are right, BLDG-SIM has been dwindling in
usefulness. Last year, it only had 58 posts for the entire
year. I haven't looked at LEEDuser in years but maybe
BLDG-SIM is still the best thing available. BLDG-SIM has
over 2200 subscribers so I would guess that if you have a
question about LEED and modeling, you will probably get an
answer. And people are still joining.
I look and participate at unmethours regularly but it is
only for questions and answers and doesn't really handle
announcements or discussions or surveys or random thoughts
and in my opinion (hopefully this won't offend anyone) it
has a weak "community feel" compared to BLDG-SIM in its
heyday. I looked for a while at changing BLDG-SIM to use
Discourse which is what Ladybug uses but it seems high
maintenance compared to a mailing list and I personally
don't have the bandwidth for it on a regular basis. I've
also considered changing the BLDG-SIM mailing list hosting
software (Mailman) to a newer version that makes the archive
more searchable and usable but that would still be an email
mailing list. For a while I thought LinkedIn was enough
since it essentially can do the "announcement" part but it
doesn't do the discussion or community aspect, at least very
well.
I really think a new generation of modelers would probably
benefit from a good forum and I would be glad to help foster
that. To me the trick is having something that both the
young modelers and the experienced (nice way of saying
older) people both use. I'm not sure what that is but it
probably not a mailing list or at least not exclusively a
mailing list.
Members of this mailing list, if you are just starting out
in doing building performance modeling, what type of forum
or mechanism would you prefer to be able to ask questions
and stay informed?
For us "experienced" members, please reach out to the the
newest and least experienced modelers that you know and ask
them the same question and report back to us.
Maybe we can bootstrap something new that is BLDG-SIM-like
into existence that can help the entire modeling community.
