[Bldg-sim] Regulated vs. Unregulated Energy in Appendix G

I would have thought the Section 6 boiler minimum efficiency applies to any snowmelt boiler. But I guess melting snow is outside of the scope of Section 6 since it's not, "serving the heating, cooling, ventilation, or refrigeration needs of new buildings." Fair point!

Hi Michael,

I agree with your assessment per the table you shared, based on 90.1-2016 and -2019. I don't know if the newest versions have added or clarified requirements.

Your list reminds me of another specific load - snow melt. There are controls requirements for freeze protection and snow melt systems per 90.1-2016 and -2019, 6.4.3.7, but there are no heating efficiency requirements.

Thanks,
~Bill

BLDG-SIM!

I'm trying to sort out some atypical loads and whether they should be treated as Regulated vs. Unregulated. Since this drives the PCI_t for the project, it's pretty critical where each of these falls.

Load Type
Regulated or Unregulated?
Indoor Pool Heating
Regulated
Outdoor Pool Heating
Regulated
Spa Pool (110F) Heating
Regulated
Indoor Pool Pumps
Unregulated
Outdoor Pool Pumps
Unregulated
Spa Pool Pumps
Unregulated
Exterior Sports Court Lighting
Unregulated
Exterior Parking and Building Lighting
Regulated
Dryer Exhaust Fans
Regulated

Thoughts? Pool pumps have time switch control requirements, except in the case where public health standards require 24-hour pump operation, which is the case here.

Any insight is appreciated!
