Hello Manasa,
I see your dilemma. The 2010 version of 90.1 shows the FAF as a multiplier in equation (C-1), but with no definition. It was well defined in the previous 2007 version as FAF = 1000/CFA (sq.ft.), where CFA is the total conditioned floor area, and is used in equation (C-2). This definition was on page 116 of the 2007 version of 90.1. In the 90.1-2013 version, neither the equation nor the FAF appear because the entire Appendix C has been replaced by a simulation methodology; thus no equations are shown.
However, if you still feel compelled to use the FAF, its definition is shown here in I-P units.

Hello,
I am Manasa Lingamallu pursuing 4th year at Building Science, IIIT Hyderabad. I am currently working on developing a tool that calculates Envelope Performance Factor (EPF) using Trade-off option. In this method I am supposed to use Floor area factor (FAF), for which I am unable to find its definition in ASHRAE.
Please could anyone help me by defining it and also by suggesting method to calculate FAF.
