[Bldg-sim] What training / education needs are not being met?

Dear Jim,

Thanks for raising up this issue and concern. Let me begin by introducing
myself, Namrata Dhamankar, Assistant Professor at Dr.B.N.College of
Architecture,Pune. We have a department of Environmental Architecture and
Planning and have been successfully running a post-graduate course in
Environmental Design in 2006. Since 2008 we have exposed our students to a
variety of building simulation software like Ecotect,Design Builder,Vasari
and IES.

Since last year we have also started exploring software like Grasshopper
and Rhino to access plugins like DIVA and Ladybug. However we have no
expertise in the same and lack resource persons in the Indian subcontinent.

It could be great to have some sort of Train the Trainers workshops and
activities wherein faculty like me could acquire these new expertise and in
turn teach the students.

Secondly i also feel there should be some knowledge exchange platform
between various universities across the globe for student exchange and
project collaborations.

We also have a research department at the institute where we would like to
carry out research with respect to building physics and simulation with an
Indian Approach.

Hope my concerns are heard and that we can make the Indian institutional
scenario well equipped with better research database and simulation
practices.
