[UA] The Mundane Hermaphrodite

My god, it just hit me. The new movement to normalize being transgendered, bisexual, the whole Queer Coalition working toward social justice outside of the gender binary ... it's going to kill the Mystic Hermaphrodite.

I was just talking with a transgendered friend about paradox, and it occurred to me that for her, it might not be appropriate to consider gender a paradox. Then I realized: the campaign for neutral pronouns, to make it socially acceptable to move from one sex to another, the whole fight against the binary - if it succeeds, it's going to absolutely ruin our central metaphor for paradox. If the Freak is just one of the crowd, how much magic can it channel?

This could be a massive magical shakeup. We might not have to face it for decades, and who knows what the scene will look like then, but sexual paradox has been a core of magic since prehistory (as far as I can tell). The union of man and woman into a unit with two sexes, resulting in the miracle of procreation, is the first act of magic. What will happen to the world if gender is no longer loaded with mystical tension?

Help me out here. We're doing magic without a net.
