You could use automatic writing. Furious scribblings in a trance like 
state (in someone else's handwriting) that give insight in to the 
character's situation. I wrote a module a few years back that had an 
automatic writer in it. He received messages from fairies (ua style 
fairies). If he didn't have paper on hand he'd write on anything else, 
if he didn't have pens, he'd rip open his skin and write with blood.
