First read The Mordax under Rituals at Unknown-Armies.com. Go ahead, I’ll
wait.

Your players all get a visit from the police one morning. The police want
the PC’s to come down to the morgue and identify two bodies that were found in
the city reservoir with their throats cut. And could you please explain why
the bodies were surrounded by photographs of you and papers with your names
written on them?

When the PC’s get to the morgue, they find two bodies of people that are
completely unknown to them. So even if the know about the ritual (and if they
don’t just finding out about it could be a large part of the scenario) they still
have to figure out why these two people would go to such length to make them
suffer.

In addition to the actions of the Mordax, the PC’s would have to contend
with police surveillance. The police can’t pin the killing on them, the victims
obliviously killed each other, and the PC’s have alibis. (?) But the police
would be sure that they are involved somehow.  The PC’s would be followed;
perhaps their dwellings would even be searched. (Hope you hid that Hand of Glory
really well!)

What’s really going on? The PC’s have a nemesis, someone who has a grudge
against them all, collectively or singularly. N. has come across the Mordax
ritual. While he doesn’t plan on slitting his own throat to get revenge, he has
no qualms about getting someone else to do it. So, N. finds a couple of
mundanes and proceeds to make their life hell. Their bank accounts are wiped out.
They loose their jobs. They find their dog crucified on their front door. Their
cat is dismembered and the parts mailed to them one at a time. Their teen
aged daughter is brutally raped, murdered and eaten (not necessarily in that
order). Their infant son disappears and the next time they see him is on a kiddy
porn video that is anomalously sent to their computer. Finally, they find that
they both have an incurable disease and are given only six months to live. At
the nadir of their despair, N. shows up and convinces them that the PC’s are
responsible for all of their trouble. The only way that they can get their
revenge is the use the Mordax ritual.
What are the PC’sgoing to do? The Mordax is virtually unstoppable. Even if
they could destroy it, N. can just repeat the procedure with some other
couple. One possibility, if the PC’s can convince the Morax that N. is responsible,
it may turn on him.
