[UA] The Easterbunny

You know, it's weird, but I don't think I never really thought much
about the Easter Bunny as a kid. I mean, sure the symbol was
ever-present in the form of school decorations, advertisements, candy
effigies and what-not. And Easter day it's self symbolized a
beginning of spring (at least to my young mind) and a focus of joy and
hope (being a religious nut and all).
But the actual bunny meant about as much to me as the male and female
silhouettes on bathroom doors. Sure it meant something, is derived
from some historic source, possibly represents some religious
syncretism, etc. But when I really think about what it means to me in
the modern context (or even myself as a kid) all I come up with is a
sort of generic and inoffensive place-holder for the specific holiday
and it's related candies.
The only other thing I could think of it symbolizing might be
"saccharine iconography propegated largely because it seemed cute and
sentimental to enough previous generations" in general. Now that I
think of it, in my symbology the Easterbunny and the concept of
"saccharine" (not the artificial sweetener) do go very closely
together.
