The gunman doesn't get killed. He's subdued, either by
the players, or some other bystanders if they don't
act. Maybe the gunman even wastes his bullets, finally
making his way to the old man and dry firing the gun,
screaming something about how many times do I have to
kill you?
The next day, they all meet for lunch to discuss. All
the players have some sort of story about the old man:
The Security Guard--the man comes in at weird times.
When he's closing up, or just leaving when he arrives
in the morning. The man always comes in alone,
carrying an old briefcase and nothing else. Only once
in all the years he's worked there has the man came in
with someone else--a young boy of about 8. The guard
assummed it was his grandson.
Lunch lady--if the man shows up in the cafeteria, it's
the same time ever time. He orders the exact same
plate lunch. Divides the meal into three portions. And
only eats one.
The Detective--Her office is one floor above where the
man works. The office next to hers is directly above
the old man's office. Last month the secretary called
her next door. Stranges noises were coming from below.
The Mousy Secretary--The office she works in, is on
the same floor. Last week, a piece of mail, adressed
to the old man (the mail didn't mention his name, just
the suite number and the address for the office
building). Kindly, she walked over to drop the
package, a large mail envelope into the mail slot on
the front of the door. Right before she did, something
in the package moved.
The gunman--after being arrested, he kills himself in
his cell by hanging--according to the official report.
Investigating will reveal that he was appartently
masturbating during his "hanging".
In the man's office is an antiqute righting desk.
Three boxes of a particular type of pencil not made in
about thirty or more years. One pencil sharpener.
Several boxes of expensive unlined paper. And rows
upon rows of file cabinets. Inside the file cabinets
are file folders marked alphabetically. Inside each
file folder written in very precise handwriting,
starting with the letter A is a list of ways to die:
diseases, methods of death, ect...
The old man has made it all the way to the letter K.
The old man is not the Comte--he works weekends as a
janitor with a Mexican woman named Marie whose brother
Jesus drives an ambulance.
