For anyone watching it on DVD I can recommend watching the subtitled
version. The producers, knowing that a lot of people outside of Russia are
likely to see it subtitled took the view that the subtitles should be part
of the action of the movie. So quite frequently the subtitles work within
the action - for instance when the vampire girl is calling the boy while he
is swimming, the subititles appear in red and then swirl and vanish like
blood in water.

Also the deleted scenes make a lot more sense for the ending.
