I don't think its about power gaming as much as a
competent character who is capable but not infallible.

I say this becaue I am any powergamer's wet dream - I
have the worst luck dice (or very, very, very quirky)
rolling. Cripes, the amount of times magic banana
skins appeared when I botched an NPC becuase of a bad
dice roll, I shudder to think.

My bad dice rolling has become notorious that my old
Ars Magica group GMs both agreed to let me roll TWO
dice and choose the best result. And even then, my
best results were just average.
