On the topic of certain controversial works, 'Uncle Tom's Cabin' was
written right here in Brunswick, Maine, a couple of hours southwest of
Bangor.

Not quite horror, but notable nonetheless. Maine also can lay claim to
Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, which is kinda neat too.
