    Personally, I like death as a "radiation accident" in a dark game like
UA.  If you can contrive to kill the PC with the player's approval, and do
it in such a way as to push the other players' squeamish buttons, and
especially if you can make them believe it could happen to them (which will
require a convincing imitation of surprise/disappointment/outrage from the
sacrificial lamb's player), it's all to the good.  Then bring in a fresh PC,
modeled to the player's radically new desires.
