[UA] A Few of My Favorite Things

I ran "A Few of My Favorite Things," and have a few thoughts.

I ran it right after "Bill in Three Persons," which wasn't necessarily the
wisest thing. My group at the time had a tough time with "Bill," as I've
mentioned before. They felt powerless and trapped by the situation, and I
was wary of running "A Few of My Favorite Things" immediately following
that. Then whoever was originally going to run a game that night flaked out,
and since I didn't have anything else I'd be ready to run in time, I went
ahead with it. It did not go well. All of the feelings of helplessness from
"Bill" were magnified by "A Few of My Favorite Things," particularly for one
player (who as something of the "alpha" of the group sways everyone else's
experience quite easily).

So, gauge your player's reaction to "Bill in Three Persons." If they did
well with it, and are a group that enjoys a bit of mystery and weirdness,
running "A Few of My Favorite Things" may work. It's probably best to give
even the pluckiest of groups some time to get their bearings first. Run a
couple of things that don't involve suddenly dropping them into an alien
situation. Give them some successes, and then pull the rug out from under
them again.

Also, you may want to tie the nightmare landscape into the game more. I did
this, actually planning on revealing more of what was going on with Bill
Toge and the dissolution of the universe. Unfortunately, my players were too
busy trying to get out of the situation to pay attention. One thing I did
was to change the coins that fall from the dead boys' mouths into two-headed
coins. Two PCs now had doubles from failures during "Bill in Three Persons,"
and their faces were on the coins, one side with their actual features, the
other with the menacing features of their doubles. I'd also planned for
Jesus to spout off some stuff during the final ride.

Personally, I like "A Few of My Favorite Things." I like the atmosphere and
dream imagery. I'm sure others have run it with more success than I. It's
come up on the list before; check the archives.

Bill in 3 Persons went well, so I'm going to run "A
Few of My Favorite Things" next.

Anyone have any suggestions/experience with this one
they can share?

Jonathan
