Actually, in 1947 in France, Communism would have been a fairly popular idea. The Russian assistance in defeating Germany would have made communism easier to accept not harder, and France even today is far more socialist than the US (not that that's saying much). The communist party still has some political power there to this day, so the idea that they are in fact based on a communist ideal makes more sense given the history you describe for them...You know, he's got really great hair, for a speed freak...-Excerpt from actual conversation--- On Wed 03/10, Hammons, Jade < jade.hammons at attws.com > wrote:

Meanwhile, the Smurf Villageconstantly eludes Alex Abel, I mean Gargamel, even though he has a smurfdetecting cat, and lots of worldly resources. Also, the whole communist theory is, well, quite bunk. Pierre"Peyo" Culliford first started Drawing "Johan & Pirlouit" in 1947 (youmay remember Johan and Peewee guest staring in numerous Smurf episodes). In 1958 Johan and Peewee were given the task of finding a magic flute, aflute that summoned the first Schtroumpf (Smurf) to be seen in thestory. (This was retold in the movie The Smurfs and the Magic Flute(1983)). There are two smurf movies from France predating the Televisionshow, and the birth of whoever thought this whole communist smurf thingwas a sfunny idea to propose. One was made in 1965, the other in 1976.It should be noted that after their initial appear theSchtroumpfs became quite popular and were spun off rather quickly intotheir own comics. So considering the Smurfs, appeared in a children's comic in thelate 50's while the cold war was simmering ugly in the background, thatcommunism was not really a consideration, even unconsciously.Jade Hammons"Nobody realizes that some people expend tremendous energy merely to benormal." - Albert Camus-----Original Message-----From: ua-bounces at lists.unknown-armies.com[mailto:ua-bounces at lists.unknown-armies.com]On Behalf Of nick wedigSent: Wednesday, March 10, 2004 10:53 AMTo: The Unknown Armies RPG Mailing ListSubject: Re: [UA] Invisible Smurfy> The Invisible Clergy is like the Smurfs. This would make Papa Smurf The> Compte.> > I think it also makes Smurfette the Naked Goddess.Actually, since Smurfette was originally an evil anti-Smurf created byGargamel but then was converted by the goodness and light of theSmurfs, she's more likely to play a role of alien invading entity, possibly a remnant from a previous incarnation of reality, that causesproblems until the Comte fixes it. Maybe she's a Cruel One, or workingfor the House of Renunciation. Actually, that latter sounds good, withthe switch from Gargamel's evil, obviously adept-based, to Smurfishgood and all.Mr. Teapotable to quote Donnie Darko's lines before Donnie said them__________________________________Do you Yahoo!?Yahoo!
