Not neccessarily completely nuts... It's a very very complex dance (how
much depending on how well the two mesh with each other) which can
definitely lead to a lot of stress checks trying to balance both, and almost
definitely impairs A) the characters 'normal' life, (s)he just doesnt have
time anymore, B) both paths, as (s)he has to split his/her efforts to
advance between the two, neither one improves as much as it would if (s)he
pursued it solely, and C) (s)he's not twice as likely to violate taboo, but
more like 3 or 4 times as likely, as avoiding one frequently stresses the
other.
Bottom line: It can be done, and sanely, but its hella hard and often not
worth the trouble. I'd not encourage players to do it, but sometimes it
just makes sense.
And since channelling an archetype is unconcious many times, sometimes it
just happens.

"Completely Nuts" sounds about right. I got the impression from UA2 that
The Freak isn't completely whacked since conflict is at the heart of the
Mystic Hermaphrodite. Jeeter, on the other hand, is stone gone.
Adepts themselves seem off kilter enough to (mostly?) prevent them from
channeling a universal archetype. After all, since they're so warped it's
not as if they could understand regular people enough to embody a specific
facet of a the collective unconsciousness of regular people.

In general I don't think I'd allow them if I were running a campaign -- if
someone went that route, though, I'd make sure that they played it as though
they were completely nuts, because that's what happens when you're that
filled with mojo.
