What it is is that your character can do more
"actions" with one roll than before. It sort of folds
all these other game mechanics into a single event. In
UA the attack and damage are the same roll.

I did homerules for my Mage game using a similar
set-up a while ago. I've promised to post it off in
the future. So lets see how far I get. 

In my WOD combat set-up you roll the Fist-o-Dice
according to adding all those Lil Dots together (there
is a cap).

You check successes. Appoint successes for initiative.
Initiative can be kept by removing a like amount of
dice out of the Combat Pool. deduct you Initiative
Successes from ten, and count from one and up to see
how fast/when you go.

Apply the Success Pool to the attack. Your opponent
decides how many of his Combat successes are going to
dodge/soak/cancel yours. The remainder get through as
damage. 

Certain things couldn't be spent elsewhere. You had to
spend Celerity/Fast effects on initiative, Potence on
damage, and Fortitude on resistance.

The gys I tried to test it on just didn't get it
despite me saying: just make a pool all your scores in
these five things, roll the dice count successes,
spend as need be. They just scratched their heads and
gibbered and wanted to roll four different dice pools.

I don't think WODs new system is vastly different, but
I think Greg's One Roll jobg is the new gaming fashion
trend.
