You can read in dreams. Claims otherwise come from older theories of
neurology and psychology. The facilities diminished in dreams are
facilities not generally noticed. For instance edge detection,
perception of straight lines, and similar picking out of low level
features are all impaired in dreams. The cells responsible for these
tasks are not receiving any external stimulation and they do not have
strong connections from the later stages of visual perception. This
is the source of the dream like haze.
So you can read, but if you look closely at the letters you won't be
able to fix them down with the same sharpness that real letters have.
