It doesn't actually use a d20.

You get a certain number of dice to roll per turn, based on the skill of
the pilot.  If you roll a d10, you get a regular hit if the result meets or
beats the target's Defense.  Rolling multiple d10s means you're attempting
multiple attacks.  Roll a d12 and you're attempting a big, flamboyant
finishing move with loads of damage and ancillary effects.  But it only
works if you roll a natural 12.  Other dice improve your Defense or your
movement rate.
