The 'lisk can be male or female, but I presume that
mating would be toxic to them. Apparently chickens
peck at each other during mating season. I'd presume
the 'lisk skins are toxin proof, but not the insides
of their mouths.

Sure, why not. If you really want to be finickity you
can apply fruit fies, and say that only 10% of births
are Basilisks. The rest never get past fertilisation
before being too poisoned to develop.

I presumed cockatrices and basilisks to be the same
creature. Get your players to experiment. Maybe you'd
