[UA] Thanatomancers?

I had the same thought. Maybe they cut their own phone cords 'cause they wanted to die in peace, and left their doors unlocked so they were easy to find once they'd died. Sounds much more peaceful than dying on the end of a life-support machine in a hospital. Of course that's a little too nice to be a UA explanation ;) Maybe some kind of secret society would work, though I can't think what exactly.

Yeah, I was thinking that too... to me it looks like "[when]you get that
old, one day you can just lay down and die" was _exactly_ what happened
to them. However I do think it's definatly weird enough to make the
rounds here :)

instance, if Pac-man affected kids born in the eighties, we should by
now have a bunch of teenagers who run around in darkened rooms and eat
pills while listening to monotonous electronic music."

Uh, could someone explain the closing line to me?
"You hope if you get that old, one day you can just lay down and die,"
Barbara Fisher said. "It's not fair to die in such a terrible way."
Three old women (85, 79, 87) die in their nightgowns while laying on
their
beds. The only sign of 'foul play' is a severed phone cord and an
unlocked
front door. How, then, is this a 'horrible way to die'? Methinks
someone's
charging up a scapegoat to become a Wronged Man. Perhaps there's a
ritual
that allows you to locate people who are about to die of natural causes,
which then allows you to screw with circumstances to make it seem
nastier
than it really is...until something manifests out of sheer paranoia.
