Uh, could someone explain the closing line to me?

"You hope if you get that old, one day you can just lay down and die,"
Barbara Fisher said. "It's not fair to die in such a terrible way."

Three old women (85, 79, 87) die in their nightgowns while laying on their
beds.  The only sign of 'foul play' is a severed phone cord and an unlocked
front door.  How, then, is this a 'horrible way to die'?  Methinks someone's
charging up a scapegoat to become a Wronged Man.  Perhaps there's a ritual
that allows you to locate people who are about to die of natural causes,
which then allows you to screw with circumstances to make it seem nastier
than it really is...until something manifests out of sheer paranoia.
