Maybe he trancended the role of Demon and became a Cruel One. ;)

But how's this word - Dybbuk
:a wandering soul believed in Jewish folklore to enter and control a
living body until exorcised by a religious rite

Though of course Daemon isn't bad, based on it's traditional greek
definition
:supernatural being of Greek mythology intermediate between gods and men
(Soul trapped between the world and the statosphere)

Personally at this point, I would go the 'Fallen' route, and since his
obsession is still to ascend... well.. let me tell you about this time I
almost died...

A few other options: Shedim, Jinn (ooh, a wish giver), Ifrit, or my
favorite Jack Chick.

So here's an idea I had... IMUAC there's a guy who was trying to ascend
a
new archetype, The Defiler (some of you may recall). He died, with his
Avatar skill as his Obsession. And, he has a demon sticking around.

So what kind of demon is formed around an obsession like that? IRC The
UA
book says that a demon is what is LEFT when an obsession is strong
enough to
survive death: weaker bits of the personality are stripped away,
leaving
pure, obsessed twistedness.

I suppose being dead would prevent a normal Avatar from channelling any
power, but in this particular case, things are different. There is no
Ascended Archetype which the power is channelling down from. The
Avatar/Demon in question stands alone. Furthermore, his very death was
the
SAME symbolic action which WOULD have ascended him, had he survived.
(He
was murdered by a victim, and since his 'defilement' of said victim had
driven her to this act of murder, totally against her nature, it was the

ultimate defilement, turning this person into the complete opposite of
what
she intended or wanted to be.)

Anyway, this leaves a person caught between Statosphere and the real
world.
a VERY peculiar position.

What I'm really looking for is a TERM that will somehow illustrate the
state
this soul is in, simultaneously inhabiting heaven and hell, as it were.

I've tentatively called him a "Daemon" but I don't like this... I want
something better.

Thoughts?
