Thanks, Patrick, and I'm glad it was just a misunderstanding. I apologize
for my comments.

I've made a similar mistake myself, saying something ironically that, in
some convoluted way, was meant as a compliment. Instead, a friend of mine
took it like a slap in the face -- because what I literally said was really
obnoxious. I was so deep inside the irony that I couldn't see how it could
be incorrectly perceived.

I've since tried to treat irony as a precision tool, rather than a
lifestyle. I find direct communication more useful these days.
