You could always include a bunch of Lovecraftian
twerps (they're always great) who want to mystically
reword/rename Ithaka to Ithaqua.

They worship It in winter by doing those freezing
river swims and dragging down squall blizzards.

As a twist your King and Queen fight over the no-man's
land ley line could manifest in chess games (pieces
move when no one's looking) as a sort of Alice through
the Looking Glass metaphor. That also parallels with
the White Stag/White Rabbit.

With the White Stag/White Hart there's also the
Christian Mythology/Arthurian angle with the Hunters
as a Murder Cult of spontaneous Thanatomancers.
