Actually I could see Amish mechanomancers. The Amish are very parochial, and 
the prohibitions on what can and cannot be used very from community to 
community. Some amish use innovations such as gasoline and kerosene. Still, 
the clockwork can't look like anything human or animal. Something about 
Exodus 20:4 and not making graven images. Also the community would probably 
know about what was going on. Or the mechanomancer would have to be very, 
very secret or risk excommunication (shunning) or a lot worse.

Could be interesting...
