Also remember that there's no Nobel prize for Economics. There's a "prize
in honour of the memory of Alfred Nobel" for economics. Alfred Nobel was an
engineer, and engineers (myself included) have a deep disdain for overpaid
beancounters. Alfred Nobel (inventor of dynamite) most likely did think
highly of mathematicians, but his main rival for his wife was one of the
greatest mathematicians of that time, and practically giving this guy a lot
of money shortly after his own death probably seemed like a bad idea. This
last bit is rumour, but pretty well fonded rumour all the same...

mathematics. John Nash won the prize because of a new
formulae he developed for Economics.

John Nash never recovered. People don't recover from
paranoid schizophrenia any more than they recover from
Alzheimers. He just lived his life without medication
and treatment.
