Very cool indeed. I really like the idea about charges and the 
higher price for breaking taboos. I'd *love* to see the other 
modifications you come up with.  

I can see Authentic Thaumaturgy, Bibliomancers, 
Entropomancers, Epideromancers, Kleptomaners,  
Mechanomancers, Narco-Alchemists, and Plutomancers.  I'm 
less certain how the rest would fit into the Sword & Sorcery 
paradigm.  Obviously Avatars would also fit exceedingly well.  
Swords & Sorcery UA sounds like great fun.  Btw, have you 
seen Sorcerer and Sword by Adept Press (ie Ron Edwards).  
It's an interesting S&S game, but rather too limited in terms of 
mechanics.

A fantasy world where Mechanomancers, Narco-Alchemists, 
and Epideromancers were out in the open would be wonderfully 
odd and most even be able to be described as postmodern 
fantasy :)
