reveals this to be blood.

-The wife's soul is trapped in the bullet that paralysed your hero. He suffers from
blackouts and he doesn't know why - one could argue the bullet is pressing on his spinal
cord or something. Doctors say in time it will kill him. He doesn't realise that 'he'
sent the postcard to himself during one of his blackouts. He could spend years tracking
down his dead wife before realising that he can never find her. The only way to bring
her back would be to perform a ritual on the bullet with her soul in it. This would
involve removing the bullet, which would kill him.


Just some thoughts.
