[UA] Fez :) and UA Turkey

Fez is something of 1920's and before as Max mentioned. There is a law
which forbids Fez and like for daily use. An old law (1924 if I'm not
mistaken) of young Turkish republic. Also wearing fez is not offensive
but plainly absurd and funny; so it is good for a Fool.
Do not worry about the character, there are a lot of Fools in Turkey as
it is around the world. :)
In my game Turkey is a mix of ideas and cultures. As it is in real life
but to a greater extend. Every cult mentioned has some power in Turkey,
and there are ancient cults, ancient thoughts. As an example, The Flying
Women and Lady of her House (an Avatar I made up: a wife whose only
purpose is making her husband happy and supporting the family so that
house shall prosper) are in constant war. You can watch story of a woman
overcoming obstacles where few men are successful and later in the
evening in a debate program a woman argues that husband loves her and
beatings are not important.
A dipsomancer character drinks only beer because he thinks that it is
the drink of Gods. And has an ancient Hittite cup he found at an
archeological site. He was an archeologist but found out Hittite's give
beer magical properties and he changed :)
And a little information, Ankara the capital city is founded by Celts.
So think the amount of mix here.

I'll give two sites, which are unfortunately Tourist Guides of İstanbul,
only these were in English.

and also the Ministry of Culture

Dammit, Gökçe, until this moment, I'd been guiltlessly including an
amazingly shallow Turkish Avatar of the Fool in my UA campaign. You
know, one of those deals where I've got a sketch of depth (his grasp of
English is less than perfect, so he comes off as dim and agreeable,
thus his Avatarship, but he's actually decently intelligent) but which
the players will probably never see past the surface of.

Now I feel like I'm somehow betraying the international fraternity of
UA by not casting him in a more meaningful role. Any recommendations
about how a Turk would find himself in TNI? And is it amazingly
offensive if he wears a fez?
