} Typically, an RPG session comes about when a GM invents a plot. He then
} goes looking for players, and the players make characters, which the GM
} either approves or disapproves, based on whether they'd fit into his game.

How amusing....I was aboutt o post something along these lines.....

so my friends are White Wolf fans, they really enjoy the World of Darkness
and in fact most where Vampire players exclusively. Recently we convinced
them to play in a Mage chronicle that lasted for a year and a half
(meeting every other week), We reached the peak of the Chron. and our
Storyteller decided to take break.

Seeing an opertunity, and finding myself with some support for it, I
offered to run a UA oneshot. My intention was to have them make up
characters and pick a group, none of them had the book (or knew the world)
so I didn't have to worry about them making anything more than street
level characters, it should be easy to get them into "Bill in Three
Parts"...right?

Foolishly I let them have trigger events.... this lead to a 2 hour
improvised session in which I had to pull together and interesting
game....Suddenly the Chronicle I had been thinking about running was
sitting in my lap. I've got about 20 pages of notes and plots now...thank
goodness for the characters who tied in all the loose ends....
