Silent Hill is, in my opinion, excellent inspirational material for UA.
Specific to this discussion, most of the game you are exploring this
apparently abandoned town, looking for your daughter (or your wife in
the sequel).  Periodically, the town undergoes a sort af
transformation, becoming dark and blood splattered and full of barbed
wire and even more weirdness.  Places that are inaccessible in one
version of the town are open to you in the other, and certain
characters will only show up in one version of the town.
