My brother's fraternity has a tradition called the "Case Race" (Their
school being Case Western).  The idea is, you and a partner have to
drink a case of beer and then run a mile, with the fastest team (both
members) winning.  Their best time is, I believe somewhere between one
and two hours.  Suddenly, it occurs to me that this could be some sort
of boozehound ritual, or perhaps a ancient dipsomantic form of ritual
combat (eg, the first one over the race gets mystic power of some sort
over the loser).

Incidentally, in recent years, they've begun providing non drinkers
with a case of Code Red Mountain Dew instead of beer.  The nondrinkers
fare far worse, and vomit more.
