1. It isn't an obscure Jewish sect. It's one of the Chasidish groups. Of course,
to those outside of Judaism, they seem like an obscure sect.
2. They didn't know which fish it was that talked, just that it was one in the
barrel.
3. They got most of the part about it being the soul of a dead man correct and
that he asked for learning to be done in his name. On the other hand, no one
believes that it was God made flesh (or fish).
4. The entire barrel was buried because they didn't know what fish spoke, it was
not sold.
5. Religious Jews believe that a soul can return in many forms if there is
something that it needs to continue on (Tikkun).
Love how the media blows things out of proportions by adding in sensationalism.
