Crossbow bolts were more massive than that. Up to 2 cm in
diameter.

The so called "killing range" for longbows and more powerful
crossbows was about 200m. If you hit an unarmoured target at that
range, he'd probably go down.  For heavily armoured targets the
range was 40-50m.
