Crossbow bolts and Bow arrows both have a significant crush cavity.
Crossbows and longbows can send their projectiles completely through a human
torso (even one that is armored, as seen on the History Channel).
=======================
This sounds very similar to the advise Hoss offered to Little Joe on the eve
of his duel with an effete Frenchman. Little Joe wasn't taking it very
seriously, to say the least:
Hoss--Well, Little Joe. I reckon you'd be paying a little more attention if
that feller was gonna have a gun.
LJ--Sure, Hoss. But this is just a little sword. Kinda flimsy, at that.
Hoss--Way I figure it, Little Joe, a bullet is about this big around
{gestures to little finger} and about this long {thumb & forefinger slightly
apart}. Now that flimsy sword is about this big around {gestures to little
finger} and about this long {hands a yard apart}. Shouldn't take you long to
work that out.
LJ--{regards foil with an expression of concern}

Hoss was a lot smarter than folks gave him credit for.
