[UA] Chinese Icon Assistance

Thank you for the suggestions. I briefly read through some internet
biographies to put the proposed names into context. So far, Deng Xiaoping
is my leading contender.

“Deng Xiaoping” - a good suggestion. Many modern Chinese icons (I’ve
recently read) are of a political nature due to the sheer amount of
propaganda they received. His death in 1997, and the fact that at least 100
million Chinese must recognize his face, makes him a very possible
candidate. I’m imagining his Idol would represent political powers of some
nature which my player and I would have to research and define.

“Sun Yat-sen” - he would be a good suggestion, too; he is at least arguably
more recognizable (his name anyway) than Deng Xiaoping; but his death in
1925 makes him ineligible to be an iconomantic Idol (all deaths must be
after WWII).

“Pu Yi” - the movie _The Last Emperor_ elevates him in the eyes of
Westerners, plus it has the bonus of telling a rather tragic story, which is
good for an Idol, but is Pu Yi really face-recognizable by 100 million
people? He could be a good choice, though. I recognize the name, at least.

“Lu Xun” - unfortunately, he died in 1936 prior to WWII and therefore is
ineligible as an Idol; another good suggestion, though.

“Faye Wong” - a more than popular enough figure, but she’s still alive, and
iconomancer Idols can only channel the dead so far (though _Postmodern
Magick_ says that some adepts are trying to get around that). I had an idea
of a scenario, though, in which a ruthless iconomancer plots the
murder/assassination of a famous bubblegum teen idol of the United States
(Britney Spears, for example) in order to channel her powers after death.
Perhaps I can rework this idea for outside the United States to Ms. Wong . .
. ?

“Tony Leung & Brigitte Lin” - as above.

“[The] still-unknown, still-at-large fellow who stood up to the tanks at
Tiananmen Square” - isn’t he mentioned as a possible avatar in
_Statosphere_? In any case, his very anonymity prevents him from being an
Idol.

Incidentally, has anyone considered the following Western figures as Idols:

Howard Hughes
Babe Ruth
Errol Flynn
Clark Gable
Humphrey Bogart
Colonel Harland Sanders . . ?

Thanks for the ideas. The ones suggested really have helped me a lot.
