[UA] my game/experiment

Sorta long note on me finally starting a game. I've had the game and
subscribed to this list for a year without even playing. I like the game,
and this list is a good mix of gaming and odd comments. In fact, I might
have never seen Donnie Darko (one of my favorites) if I didn't hear it
mentioned here.

The experiment. I have 3 players, and I'm not telling them what the game
is, and I've asked them to not try to find out what it is. I put cover on
my UA2 book. The idea is that they will slowly learn what is going on in
the UA world.

The actors. A bunch of slightly odd people who know something unnatural is
going on in the world won the lottery together. They bought an occult
bookstore as a home base, and set out into the world to investigate weird
stuff. They are using the Weekly World News to find things to investigate
(it's all true I tell you!). Unfortunately, they announced their plans to
the media when they won the lottery, and they are posting their findings on
a web site. They will draw the attention of the Sleepers someday. They
are having fun with unlimited lottery cash (bought a big RV with internet
satellite dish), but I plan on ending that fun in some evil way someday, hehe.

The world. With apologies to Greg, I'm changing some things in the game
world. The occult underground exist and adepts are well known in that
world. Avatars, however, are something still mysterious to them. Avatars
either don't realize who they are or keeping it to themselves. The primary
struggle in the occult underground is occurring because they are just
starting to realize there is such a thing as Avatars. Everyone is trying to
figure out what is going on and use it to their advantage. The invisible
clergy is completely unknown at this time. The overall goal of the game is
to discover this whole cosmology. It's a great cosmology, and if they
players don't know the game, I think it will be fun to reveal it to them
slowly.

The plan. They players know nothing of adepts, avatars, invisible clergy,
renunciation. I gave them simple rules to make characters, and told them
the setting was "modern day weird stuff", and that's it. If their
obsessions matched a school, I would have let them be adepts, but they
didn't. The overall plan is to introduced them to magick first (they will
probably think an Epideromancer is some kind of strange zombie), then the
idea that there are all kinds of underground organizations, then probably
pull them into TNI, then have them investigate that whole ascension thing, etc.

Suggestions welcome...
