In that case, you certainly should give American Gods a try.

My opinion of Gaiman is that he's got talent, but not much range; he can
write well, but doesn't move outside a fairly tight area of plots and plot
ideas. I've also become very bored with the British-public-school,
read-a-lot-of-GK-Chesterton prose style he and a lot of other English genre
writers use (Pratchett, Barker et al), and I don't find his work very
emotionally engaging - but hey, that's just me.

And if you like AG, go read his Sandman stuff afterwards - or better yet
Signal to Noise, which I think is certainly his strongest work.
