Hallejuah, brother! I love Neil, but I thought _American Gods_ was crap.
Of course, because I hated it, every person who ever wrote a review of
the book simply has to love it. I can't find a single review anywhere
on-line or in print that thought it was as boring and derivative as I
did. So I guess I'm more annoyed by the fact that I seem to be one of the
few people to find it uninspiring at best. My only argument is that in my
opinion, it sucked.
Like, I didn't connect with any of the characters at all. Shadow was too
apathetic and detached, and I absolutely could not sympathize with his
"in-jail-wife-has-affair-and-dies" situation, largely because I feel it's
been done to death by this point. Some of the god characters were
interesting, but not nearly enough so as to carry me through all the
tedious chapters where Shadow is living in that boring midwestern town
while Odin goes out and does all the fun stuff.
Anyway, I'm rambling. ;) It just made me happy to see that someone else
didn't like _American Gods_ either.
