   Oh, nice, it's by Carl Hiaasen, too.  I'll have to look for that.

   As I pointed out to Sean when he mentioned this book to me the other
day, the single creepiest (and perhaps most UAable) facet of the Disney
empire is Mickey Mouse itself.

   Yes, 'Itself'.  Mickey Mouse isn't a 'him'.  Mickey Mouse isn't a
character *at all*.  Step back and think about it.  What's 'he' like?
What's 'his' personality?  How many cartoons have you *actually seen* with
Mickey Mouse in them?  He's a void, a blank space, but a blank that
children in our culture are conditioned practically from infancy to love,
to regard as a friend, even though they have *no idea what he is*.

   So what happens when the last seat in the IC appears, and there's no
one sitting in it, nothing but the word 'Mickey' scrawled on the back?
