There are a whole heap of disused Underground stations. Some were
abandoned when the Underground came under one company (previously, it had
been run by several companies and so there were places where there were
stations within a hundred yards of each other.)

One (I think it was Down Street, but can't remember exactly) was
Churchill's bunker during the war. It had offices, staff, its own water
and sanitation etc. and was where he retreated to during air raids.

The interesting thing (from a Cliomancers point of view) is that you used
to be able to take tours of these forgotten stations, but you no longer
can. Of course, London Underground claim that it is simply lack of demand
and resources, but they would say that, wouldn't they?
http://www.starfury.demon.co.uk/uground/ has a lot more information.

There are other secrets hidden under London. Fleet Street (traditionally
the home of London's newspapers) is called so because the River Fleet runs
down the middle of it. There's a fair amount about this hidden river at
http://pvdl.best.vwh.net/fleet5.html
