Ok, lets go...I got Kult a long time. First english edition, great game,
also percentile dice. One of the most terrifying and great settings i ever
saw. Then it had one of the best sourcebooks i ever had (Legions of
Darkness), almost as good as Karma, for SLA Industries. Some adventures not
so good, but ok. Then the company with the game changed...and came second
edition. Second edition was...interesting. Have a streamlined system, a new
power for the demons and such, and have no magic on the basic book. They
took it, and put in the Conjurer's books (wich i have two sets, one still
closed in plastic envelop. Its kind of a fetish i have, to have sometimes
more than one copy of a book i really like), wich are great, but i feel
myself ripped someone, since i HAD to buy two more books besides the first.
That was annoying, but was not the worst at all...the worst was the
modifications in the setting, and the Metropolis Sourcebook. It was a
disaster. Ok, fanboys loved it, but hey...it sucked. Was much better
graphicly, but inside was full of bullshit, and turn the horror game i loved
in just a "wich one that has the biggest weapon will make more points". The
player companion was also terrible and so on....them the game was cacelled
wich sometimes i thank God for that. Thats it. I loved it and ran it for
years. Some of my players was so scaried they gave up playing because it
caused nightmares to them... My website was initially built with more than
anything else, Kult content. My first review was a Kult review, widely
stolen by other websites, etc. Kult is a bitter name for me because of that.
I gave much of myself to it, and it got worse every time, to finally
disapear. I heard about a new edition, but not yet translated to
english...anyway, i could PAY not to touch it, but to keep it away from me.
I love Kult, i hate what it became.
This kind of experience even make me very afraid of UA2, until i read Tynes
email explaining what have changed. Man, it took a terrible fear that was
looming over me. :)
So, if you ever want to get some Kult stuff, look for 1st Ed, wich is quite
rare those days, and those sorucebook: Legions of Darkness (wich fleshs out
the background you glimpse in the rulebook, but ius not really necessary, is
just GREAT, but you can play without it) and the Conjurer's Guides (they are
beautifull, quite usefull, and got in the head of the conjurer'r, wich is
GREAT). Avoid all the rest. Some old adventures are nice, but that's all.
And if you ever grab Metropolis, see HOW YOU SHOULD NOT MAKE A SOURCEBOOK,
EVER!

As someone who's been a bit curious about Kult lately but knows little,
I'd like a little more explanation of this.
