I wrote part of this on the weekend, and i will send the spells in the next
email, so is lots of "material without much actual thinking", and so, im
sorry for unbalancing. Im doing this for the reasons presented in the
"motivation", and because I will use a NPC with it in the actual campaign
(im already using, actually). Again, sorry for the many typos, bad use of
english, etc, etc. And if you can suggest a better name, please, do so.
Tenebreamancy is too big, and doesn't sound ok at all. :)
And i notice now, even before doing the spells, is not very like obnebration
as i itended...but im loving it. :)

Tenebraemancy
by Haroudo S. X. Filho (DL) (dreamlord at cryogen.com)
"Where we're going, we won't need eyes to see."
Dr William Weir, Event Horizon
Motivation:
Yes, im also a sinner, i had VtM for a long time before i got all the
hardened checks. And I felt in love with obtenebration.
So i enjoyed the idea of transporting it to my new favorite universe (before
UA, was Kult, but to love Kult is like loving a woman that keeps cheating
you no matter what).
Still i had to give it a proper UA spin, a whole new bunch of powers, and
make it cool for players to use it, and creepy so the GMs would make their
GMCs usign it also. I hop i done just that.
Theme:
Tenebraemancy is about horror and darkness. Is about a school forming a cult
around it, for legit reasons or not, but still with some probable clergy
influence. The horror comes naturally to the school, and darkness is the way
horror is worked out by their adepts.
Nickname(s): Horror Freaks, Shades, Shadowmancers.
History:
Sure, the school started with an horror movie. Jefferson Hayes just saw
Hellraiser IV. He left the theather thinking how it sucked big time. He
missed even scary, but crap movies like "The Fog" or "Fright Night". "Damn",
he must have thought, "Evil Dead was really cool!".
Jeff would just drift home, and get ready to sleep with "danse macabre"
playing in the background. But he was curious, and the weird
chittering/barking sound at the alley, not just scaried the hell of him, but
also attracted like a desdly magnet.
He was not really surprised to find a body there, but when his lighter was
off and he received the first bite from something he glimpsed as "some
flickering shadow beast", as he told the cops, well..."im in deep shit" was
the last thing he resgistered before fading to black.
After six weeks recovering from "wounds and infection caused by unidentified
animal assault", what was left was a new man. Before the "accident", Jeff
was not obssessed by horror...sure, he loved it, but kind in a funny way,
not like now...he saw the world and every shadow like oozing horror...and he
would control it, or be consumed by it. That's when his quest started.
Normally, people like him would be driven insane by th lack of clues,
untouched again by the source of it's fears and obssession...he would just
fade away from OU history in a few weeks. But then, he started to see the
right people, and make the right questions, following the few possible leads
for the unnatural world he just saw, and almost ate him alive. Still, he
would give up if something have not reassured him all he have heard was not
just some loon stories...that something was a sleeper, a sleeper and a
baseball bat.
One more week in the hospital. But now he was more than sure. Something
weird was happening, something he used to see just in horror movies, reading
in horror novels...He took a license in the job, combining health problems
with lack of a vacation, and became a full time "occult researcher". At same
time, he stated to see more horror, read more horror. He started to see
clues about a hidden horror and the power of it. Darkness was his major
subjected, and how it connected it to the OU, and even without knowing it,
he spontaneously created his magick school.
Later contacts by both TNI and Mak Attax just keep him in right directions,
and gave him his first solid contacts. He made agreements with both, doing
detective and research jobs, trading for TNI money, and Mak Attax magical
knowledge. And then, he had everything setup for his magick school
Philosophy:
Shades believe that Jeff was guided since the beggning, they believe in the
power of the darkness, the terrible fear it inspires in the heart of man,
and that it bites with razor sharp teeth if allowed.
They have also theories like that Darkness is truly what composes the world,
and light is empty space, erasing darkness. They believe Darkness refuges in
the same dimension that cames the Tenebrae and Unspoken Servants, that
explain why they have powers over both and other shadow beasts. They believe
darkness is a instrument to right the wrongs, and ultimately promotes the
order. They believe Darkness have a councious, and have their own people
already in the Invisible Clergy. They believe horror is necessary, so
humanity will not decline even more, horror is darkness tool to show the
human race the right way. They believe in a lot of stuff, but they are not
exactly sure about anything, but they are waiting for Darkness to send it's
messiah. And they believe horror stuff is the key to find it/him/she and
when it/him/she will come.
The more radical and regilous inspired Shades, formed the Shadow Cult
(commercially know as "Horror Factory"), working to bring horror to the
media and to the media to produce more horror.
Horror Freaks are more horror than darkness inclined. They believe horror is
the ultimate feeling, the social hammer, and the hardest art form. Usually
horror freaks are not preaching it, but they always are trying to attract
more people to horror, and to love it. Creating and inviting people to
"horror video clubs", "horror reading circles", "horror RPG groups", is what
they do mostly.
Geography and Organization:
Shadowmancers are splitted in two informal groups, "shades" and "horror
freaks". The few outside that know their distinct philosophy theorize they
will be two different schools in the future, but since both work in some
kind of simbiosis, that is very unlikely.
Shades are the shadowmen involved in a cult to the Darkness itself, called
informally of "shadow cult". Been very like a "normal" religion, they invite
even non-tenebraemancers to the cult, but avoid people from outside the OU.
Jeff's stories about the Sleepers are widely known by the shades. Darkness
for them is a living goddess, and promotes magick and order, with the means
it has at hand, specially horror. Horror is for them, not just
entertainment, but also tells how evil is can be very punished, and if not
evil individuals, humanity for it's errors.
The Shades itself have no hierarchy, but their company has. The cult formed
a company, "The Horror Factory", to promote, produce and raise money for
horror movies, plays, games, etc. The company even give donations for horror
actors and writers that shows promise but is having some difficults in the
moment. The company board of directors is sole composed by Jeff and
Tenebreamencers that learn the school with him. They avoid dealing with
religous aspects of the shades as religious leaders, but they control the
company and its resources and targets, dont accepting interference from no
one.
Shades are based on LA, but have "offices" in Chicago, Detroit and Miami.
They have already plans to send "missionaries" to Europe, South America,
East Asia, Australia and Africa. They have already "scouts" at Russia, South
Africa, France and Spain. Shade numbers are not big, but they do what they
can with the limited human resource they have.
The Horror Freaks are even better organized, despise been formed mostly by
newcomers. Their cell structure is loosely built, but Ítalo Rocha, Jeff's
third student, takes care of the organization, being like a second
obssession for him. But to call it a "organization" is almost unfair, since
it looks just like a "pen-pal world wide club" (but very organized in that
way, and Rocha keeps an eye on almost every single "head-members",
contantly).
The Horror Freaks are the "admission and recruitment" organization of the
Tenebraemancers. Sure, they keep magick secret, but they also like to spread
horror, and of the person is worth, they will scary it to death, see it's
reaction, and if it's still deemed worth, they will ask it to "join" the
magick school. But mostly Horror Freaks are yet made of non-adepts, just the
head-master are already in the school, and mostly, they are recently teached
adepts. Still, the things in this branch, runs quite smoothly.
Horror Freaks are literary world wide. They have members at mostly Europe
countries; Brazil, Venezuela, Argentina and Colombia at South America;
Canadá and México; Japan and Hong Kong; Australia; and Argelia, Egypt and
South Africa in the african continent. They dont have that many people, but
they have at least one adept as head-member at each of those countries.
Some, like England, have more than enough, with already seven adept Horror
Freaks.
Blast style: Their blast style is fast, piercing and blinding jolt of solid
and almost darkness that shoots from any darkness of shadow in the presence
of both adept and it's target. If the place is fully dark, it causes +3
damage. Besides the usual blast damage, the blast causes blindness for the
turn it is cast (causing enough disoriantation to make the target loose it's
next turn, unless it is sucessful in a Mind check).
Generate a minor charge: Watch a Horror movie, read a Horror novel, watch a
horror play, play to the end a horror game, play a horror RPG session at
least two hours long, etc. Alternatively, be in direct contact with
Darkness, and stay in complete darkness for 30 minutes to generate a minor
charge.
Generate a significant charge: Write an horror novel, RPG, or poem
collection. Produce, act, or direct a horror movie or play. Design a horror
game or be the compositor of an horror song. Alternatively, staying in
complete darkness for 12 hours, also gives a significant charge.
Generate a major charge: Be a world wide horror icon (Stephen King, H.P.
Lovecraft, Clive Barker, David Cronenberg, Chrostopher Lee, etc.), or live
in complete Darkness for a whole year.
Taboo: Light. The charges will fade away with different degrees of
illumination. Major charges are the most delicate, and even a cadle light
will make them fade away instantly. Significant charges can stand a match or
a candle, but not much stronger than that. Minor charges will stay even in
badly illuminated streets at night, but a tring light source, or even a room
with a 100w lamp will make even those go away.
Random magick domain: Horror and Darkness. Controlling of things from,
"Darkness", even creatures like Tenebrae and Unbound Unspeakable Servants.
All magick must inspire Horror in some form, and all must be related to
Darkness in some way. For them, Darkness is what fuels it, horror is it's
most sublime expression.
Starting charges: Newly-created Exhalomancers receive seven minor charges
and
three spells.
