How many times have I said that? Huh? Huh?
I have yet to get ahold of that Earth & Sky thingy,
but it sounds promising.
Here's something I did at a con and it worked:
(Keep in mind, I was playing with several pre-teens,
but you have to adapt.)
I had all the kids pick a fantastic creature and
describe it, it could be anything from a Black Knight
to a Chinese Dragon to a Unipeg (Unicorn/Pegasus
hybrid.)
I treated this creature like the character's archetype
and I made each character an "avatar" of that
archetype. I also had each player list four powers of
that creature and something it couldn't do.
I then told them that people "with the right kind of
eyes" could see their "manifestation," the magical
creature inside them. Even though they were outwardly
human and had human needs, the more they acted like
their magical self, the more powers they got. Whenever
they broke Taboo (did the thing that magical creature
couldn't do), they lost a power, temporarily.
We had a great deal of fun and I saw some really
imaginative and colorful stuff. I painted the world
with pretty broad strokes and did some Disney special
effects I'm not really proud of, but it seemed okay.
Admittedly, your players are probably a lot more
sophisticated, but I hope I've communicated the
general idea.
(I posted the setting on my website as Changeling
idea, which still gives me pain in all the diodes down
my left side. Feel free to use it, maybe it'll
inspire ya.)

Holy crap, this thing is just full of broken links and
I can't even find the subdirectory with most of the
files! I must have thrown it away in a fit or pique
when I talked to that one "I'll be running a
DnD/Changeling campaign, but it won't be like other
DnD worlds. There will be elves, for instance, but
they will be beautiful and noble." I asked them if
they would be impossible to embarrass and he said
"yes," so I accidentally broke another pencil and got
the slivers in my hand.
