Hmmm,

There was this one time in 1985 that I was on steroids for a persistent
sinus infection. At some point my body had recovered enough that the
steroids enervating qualities overwhelmed the weakness bought on by the
infection. I stayed up for 76 hours. It wasn't that I was really
consciously trying to stay up, I just never seemed to get tired. Oh the
things I got done! I completely revised my Bushido campaign, I wrote a
lengthy short story based on the This Mortal Coil song "Waves like
wings," I created a Call of Cthulhu setting for the wild west called
Winsome, Utah, I re-read all of my issues of Love and Rockets and
watched a LOT of junk television. When it finally caught up with me I
had just made myself a gin and tonic and was walking from the kitchen to
the living room and I just fell over. I came to about 15 minutes later.
My cat had licked up most of my drink and was quietly staring at me from
the couch with a complete look of disdain. It took another 5 minutes to
get up and stagger to bed and fall into it. I slept for another 14
hours. To this day I realize that it would be so easy to become addicted
to something that let you go without sleep. Just think of how much you
could do if you never had to sleep. And on that note check out an old
comic book called Mr X. Has a kind of UA feel to it.

Later,
Derek
