This reminds me of an old scenario of some kind... I forget the game, but it 
was a Samurai setting. There were these little spirits that ate different 
kinds of things, and one of them ate Knots. It's a little floating invisible 
thing, so the knot just vanishes. This caused huge problems for boats, etc., 
but mostly for Samurai who lost face greatly when their topknot hair fell 
apart in court. Or something.
