[UA] Sample Stress Ratings

Hi there,

as I am revisiting the rulebook to type up the sample stress
ratings and the stuff about insanity for my players (we are
email roleplaying currently because two of them are abroad
so i cannot just give them the rulebook to look at) ...

I am finding something again which has bothered me before:
the sample stress ratings on page 68.
I like to have examples but too many of those examples
tell too little about what is meant or are very rare
to come about in a game:

like:
Violence 5: be present at a massive battle
Violence 9: witness brutal mass execution

then again some things happen much more often in a game,
unnatural checks for example.

I am having a hard time applying these to my game
even though I like the stress gauges a lot. I have tried
to just use what seemed appropriate but the other day
one of my players protested when I gave him a level 4
check in violence for buying a gun.

I did that because I find that it is quite exceptional
for someone like him to own a gun (remember they are
playing themselves which is another problem which I
will gladly discuss with anyone who cares ...)
after all we are playing in Germany where it is not so
easy to own a gun as f.e. in the United States.

After looking thru the sample ratings again I find that
his protest was just concerning the rulebook. But I
still find I was right (oh and btw he did accept my
ruling he just said 'But ...')

I am also having a hard time with the self checks because
my players have changed a lot during the game but I find
hard to apply checks to certain situations.

Geez all I wanted to ask was: how do you handle the
stress checks and can anyone give me more examples
for those. Anyone made additional examples ...?

Oh and what do you do when most of your players are
turning insane and you have no time to send them
to psychotherapy? =)

Thx for any help
Ciao
Sonja

btw here is another famous German: Beate Uhse who just died
last year I think.
