I would leave out 'Pop' - pop culture is a too American import. But dead
celebrities we have. I second Frank's mention of Rainer Werner Fassbinder,
Marlene Dietrich (especially these days when because of her 100th birthday
every evening has at least one MD movie on the telly), and Romy Schneider. I
wouldn't include politicians however as I can't for the life of me see them
as celebrities.

One German celebrity I would like to add is Roy Black. Despite the
not-so-German name he was a German 'Schlagersänger' - singer and actor
('Schlager' being the German word for a sweet little tune and a sweet little
singer singing a sweet little song about love) who died some ten years ago
or so. They even made a biographical movie about him. His fans will be above
50, though. The same except for the acting goes for Rex Gildo. Suicide if I
recall correctly. Tragic.

Then we have Bavarian actor Walter Sedlmayr (now go ahead and try to say
that) who live a respectable and long life and one day was found murdered in
his flat, after which a long history of homosexual depravity was quickly
uncovered - another story that made a movie.

And internationally, never forget Freddie Mercury.

Robin
