Hmm, sometimes I think it's because in times gone by if Humans didn't 
jump or react when something suddenly appeared, even if they were 
waiting for it, then they died.  You had to react, very quickly, and 
those responses have probably never gone away.

Plus if you look at it for 2 minutes, or however long the timing is,
then you begin to relax, and then the ghost appears...
